Actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are having a hard time convincing people of their sudden hot and heavy romance. In a poll taken in New York City's Times Square, over 2/3 of the respondents believed that the Cruise and Holmes romance is a publicity stunt due to their upcoming movie releases (Cruise's War of the Worlds and Holmes' Batman Begins.)
Actors/actresses notoriously fall in and out of love in Hollywood, so why is there so much speculation about this romance. Why is this romance such a hard pill to swallow? Doesn't anyone believe in love at first sight anymore?
Well, one theory may be that as star gazers, fans, and the media have followed Tom Cruise's career, certain assumptions have been made about his character, personality, and likes & dislikes. People connect with him from a distance for various reasons.
1. Cruise is likable. Tom Cruise is one of the most likable stars in Hollywood today. He always has a smile. Treats the media and his fans well and with respect. "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", for example, was snubbed in favor of shows such as "Conan" and "The Colbert Report," possibly in response to how Leno was pushed back into the spotlight. Courtney Cox continues to be snubbed until today, from her run on "Friends" to her current role on "Cougar Town."
There are many reasons for a snub. Sometimes it is because there is an overabundance of splendid shows and actors and since there can be only one, someone must be disappointed. In other cases, it becomes a matter of internal politics. It sometimes even becomes about spite and malice.

The fact is that the show has a hilarious number of historical inaccuracies. It is also incredibly unflattering. Ted Sorensen calls the show "character assassination." Of course, this is no reason not to nominate someone for their acting - the fact that three cast members were nominated is proof of that.

The actress decided to celebrate the star turning 49 by planning a secret dinner in Miami. She invited 40 of his closest friends and family to the exclusive members-only Soho Beach House. Tom was left lost for words when he arrived at the bash and was warmly welcomed by all the guests.
